Demanding outstanding dues, Farmers hold agitation Hundreds of farmers, under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Committee, held a protest and blocked traffic on Sri Hargobindpur Sahib – Beas highway in Batala on Monday. The agriculturists were demanding immediate release of arrears towards sugarcane growers. Raising slogans against Punjab government farmers claimed that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had assured them that all dues pertaining to last season’s sugarcane crop would be cleared by September 30 but till now, not even a single rupee had been paid to any farmer of the state. The farmers gathered in a large number in the morning and sat on a dharna on the road at 10 am. - PTC News
