Delhi police tightens security ahead of farmers protest at Jantar Mantar
New Delhi [India], August 21: Delhi Police tightened security, put up cemented barricades and deployed more security at Delhi-Haryana Tikri border ahead of the farmers’ call to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Notably, the protest by the farmers were scheduled to take place in Delhi on Monday, for which they have started to make preparation and started to arrive in the city. Also Read: Pathankot-Mandi NH closed due to collapse of bridge over Chakki river Earlier, to press their pending demands, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) - an umbrella body of farmers - had announced the beginning of its 75-hour sit-in in Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh from Thursday (August 18) Meanwhile, SKM is an umbrella group comprising around 40 farm organisations, primarily demanding the proper implementation of minimum support price (MSP) for crops. The farmers also blocked the roads and railway track at at Vallah in Amritsar, Bathinda and protested at Shambhu toll plaza in Ambala, Panchkula's Barwala and Kaithal's Cheeka against the Union government for not fulfilling their demands. -PTC News with ANI inputs
