Delhi LoP Atishi alleges CM Rekha Gupta's husband running government, BJP reacts
PTC News Desk: Leader of opposition in Delhi assembly Atishi has alleged that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's husband is running the government. Former Delhi CM levelled the serious allegation via post on social media accompanied by a post that Atishi claimed showed Manish Gupta, Rekha Gupta's husband, presiding over a meeting with senior officials from departments including MCD, DJB, PWD, and DUSIB.
"Look at this photo carefully. The person who is taking the meeting of the officers of MCD, DJB, PWD and DUSIB is Manish Gupta, husband of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta," Atishi wrote in her post.
"Earlier we used to hear that if a woman Sarpanch was elected in the village, then all the government work would be handled by her husband. It was said that the women of the village do not know how to handle government work, so the work will be handled by the 'Sarpanch-husband'. But this must be the first time in the history of the country that a woman has become the Chief Minister and all the government work is being handled by her husband," she added.
"Does Rekha Gupta not know how to handle government work? Is this the reason why there are long power cuts in Delhi every day? Is Rekha unable to handle the power companies? Is this the reason why the fees of private schools are increasing? Is Rekha ji unable to handle the education department? It is extremely dangerous," she wrote.
Meanwhile BJP responded and accused Atishi of making insulting remarks. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva defended CM Rekha Gupta and said that "Atishi being a woman yourself, it is surprising you are insulting another woman leader. Rekha Gupta has worked her way up from DUSU Secretary to Delhi CM. Her husband supporting her is neither illegal nor unethical."
