Delhi court acquits two accused Satnam and Tajender Pal Singh in 1981 IA flight hijack case

Delhi court acquits two accused Satnam and Tajender Pal Singh in 1981 IA flight hijack case A Delhi sessions court has acquitted two accused in the 1981 IA flight hijack case on Monday. 37 years ago, nearly 5 five Sikhs hijacked an Indian Airlines plane with 111 passengers and six crew members going from New Delhi to Srinagar to protest against the arrest of Sikh leader Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Delhi Session court acquitted Bhai Satnam Singh Paunta Sahib and Tajender Pal Singh in the case on Monday. The two had already served a life sentence in Pakistan for the act of plane hijacking. Indian court had ruled that Satnam Singh and Tajinder Singh would face a fresh trial for other offences than those they had been earlier convicted of and sentenced to in 2017. The Sikh hijacked an Air India flight from New Delhi to Srinagar on Sep 29, 1981, and forcefully landed it in Pakistan. Following which they demanded the release of Sikh preacher Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. They were arrested by Pakistan police and were sentenced to life terms by a court there. -PTC NEWS
