Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh paid tributes to former President APJ Abdul Kalam at DRDO Bhawan (Defence Research and Development Organisation) on his birth anniversary on Tuesday. https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1183979505624334337 Remembering the Missile Man, Rajnath Singh said, "I express my gratitude to APJ Abdul Kalam on his 88th birth anniversary. He was an acknowledged scientist whose contribution to research and missile development put India in the list of countries known for their indigenous capabilities." https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1183966878147833857 Addressing the 41st DRDO Directors Conference later, Admiral Karambir Singh underlined the need for focus on niche technology besides the encouragement of small-time innovators.  “I have three suggestions, one is, impetus on niche technology. Second, a closer look at models such as DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in the US and encouragement of small-time innovators,” he said. https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1184009264202944512 Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat stressed the need for indigenous weapon systems and artificial intelligence. He commended DRDO for meeting requirements of the Services through home-grown solutions. “We are confident that we will fight and win the next war through indigenised weapon systems and equipment. We are looking at the systems for future warfare. We also have to start looking at the development of cyber, space, laser, electronic and robotic technologies as well as artificial intelligence," he said. "Armies that are better-equipped always called the shots and decided the destiny of mankind. They always had better technology. India's own historical experience on this has been sad, we were the runner-ups. There is no trophy for the runner-up," he observed. https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1183974710872137729 Emphasizing the role of competitive advantage in international relations, he said, "either you're better than your adversaries or you're not there at all. In the modern world, technology and money are two things that influence geopolitics. Of the two, technology is more important," he said. -PTC News
