The Central Government has extended the deadline to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with the Aadhaar card till March 31, 2022.
Earlier, the due date was extended from June 30 to September 30, 2021. If the PAN card is not linked with Aadhar in the stipulated time, it will become "inoperative", the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.

The due date for the completion of penalty proceedings has also been extended from September 30 to March 31. Further, the time limit for the issuance of notice and passing of the order by the Adjudicating Authority under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988, has also been extended to March 31.

Earlier, on September 9, the government had extended the deadline for filing Income Tax returns till December 31 in the view of the coronavirus pandemic and technical problems with new IT website.
"On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income-tax Act, 1961(the “Act”), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to further extend the due dates for filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22," the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
