CWG 2022: Amritsar's Lovepreet Singh bags bronze in men's 109 kg weightlifting final
Birmingham (UK), August 3: Indian weightlifter Lovepreet Singh on Wednesday bagged bronze in the final of the Men's 109 kg category, adding another medal to India's tally at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
The Indian weightlifter finished with a combined lift of 355 kg. It included a best of 192 kg in the Clean and Jerk category and 163 kg in his last Snatch attempt.
Cameroon's Junior Periclex Ngadja Nyabeyeu won gold with a total lift of 361 kg, which included the highest lift of 160 kg in the Snatch category and the best lift of 201 kg in the C&J category.
Samoa's Jack Hitila Opeloge won the silver medal with a combined lift of 358 kg. The best lifts were 164 kg in the Snatch category and 194 in the C&J category.
Lovepreet Singh had a great start as he took the lead after lifting a respectable 157 kg in the first Snatch attempt.
His opponents outperformed him, and he was dethroned from first place. His second Snatch attempt was an astounding 161 kg, putting him at the top once again.
However, in his final attempt, Canada's Pierre-Alexandre Bessette lifted a remarkable 163 kg, moving him to first place, and Lovepreet to second.
In his final Snatch attempt, Lovepreet responded with an incredible 163 kg lift. He ended the Snatch event tied for second place with Bessette. Samoan Jack Hitila Opeloge took first place after lifting 164 kg in his final attempt.
Cameroon's Junior Periclex Ngadja Nyabeyeu finished third with a lift of 160 kg.

With the Indian weightlifter in medal contention, the focus shifted to the Clean and Jerk event.
Lovepreet lifted an amazing 185 kg in his first attempt at C&J, boosting his chances of finishing first.
He then upgraded his total lift from 348 kg to 352 kg with an even stronger lift of 189 kg in his second attempt.
Lovepreet's final C&J attempt was a massive 192 kg lift, bringing his total lift to 355 kg. Bessette came in second with a combined lift of 349 kg, followed by Andy Griffiths of England with a combined lift of 346 kg.
Samoa's Opeloge lifted a tremendous 194 kg in his first attempt at C&J, and Cameroon's Junior Periclex Ngadja Nyabeyeu lifted 196 kg in his first attempt. Both finished first and second, with combined lifts of 358 kg and 356 kg, respectively. Lovepreet was moved to the third spot.
