Covid rips through Noida, Ghaziabad schools, 200 students test positive
New Delhi, April 20: After around a month of decline, Covid-19 cases have started to increase across the country, with the infection targeting a significant number of children in the past few days in Delhi and neighbouring areas. According to the latest Covid update, over 20 new infections have been reported in Ghaziabad in the last 24 hours, taking the number of active cases to around 150. Meanwhile, 107 new Covid cases were reported in Gautam Budh Nagar. With this, the number of active cases has risen to 441. Talking about coronavirus cases in children, the number almost reached the 200 mark. Around 162 students and staff have tested positive in over 25 schools in Noida and Ghaziabad, triggering panic among parents. Notably, parents in Noida ana Ghaziabad are demanding the Delhi government allow online classes. They have also written to the state government and schools, urging the authorities to allow hybrid classes for students below 12 years of age as the age group has not been vaccinated yet. Meanwhile, Delhi Disaster Management Authority is scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the current situation in wake of rising Covid-19 cases in the national capital. Meanwhile, health officials in Delhi and Noida have instructed schools to strictly adhere to the Covid guidelines and set up Covid help desks. Even if a single case of Covid is reported among children, schools have been told to close the wing or the entire school. Parents have also been advised not to send their children to school if they display symptoms of viral infection. Furthermore, the governments have made use of masks mandatory in public places in NCR regions including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat and Jhajjar.
