Covid-19 vaccine booster dose to be given after 3 months of recovery
The Centre announced on Friday that Covid vaccination, including precautionary doses, will be deferred for three months following recovery for individuals having lab test proven coronavirus infection. In a letter to all states and union territories, Union Health Ministry Additional Secretary Vikas Sheel said that requests for guidance on administering the precautionary dose to eligible individuals with Covid infection had come from a variety of quarters. "Please note that: In case of individuals having lab test proven SARS-2 COVID-19 illness, all Covid vaccination including Precaution dose to be deferred by 3 months after recovery," he stated. Covid-19 vaccination of adolescents aged 15 to 18 years began on January 3, and administration of a precautionary shot to Health Care Workers (HCWS), Front Line Workers (FLWs), and people aged 60 and above with co-morbidities began on January 10. This precautionary dose is prioritised and sequenced based on the completion of nine months which is 39 weeks, from the date of administration of the second dose. Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation has announced that coronavirus vaccine boosters should now be made available to people, beginning with the most vulnerable, rolling back its previous stance that boosters were unnecessary for healthy adults and acknowledging that vaccine supply is improving globally.
