Covid-19: India logs 25,920 new cases in last 24 hours

New Delhi, February 18: India reported 25,920 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours and the daily positivity rate was reported at 2.07 percent, according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday. With the addition of newly reported infections, the active caseload in the country stands at 2,92,092. As many as 66,254 patients recovered from the illness on Thursday, taking the total recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,19,77,238. According to the Covid update by Health Ministry, the recovery rate in India stands at 98.12 percent. India's Covid cases dip further Meanwhile, 492 Covid-fatalities were reported on the day. With this, the death toll reached 5,10,905.

Expanding India's Covid testing capacity further, as many as 12,54,893 fresh samples were tested during the past 24 hours. At least, 75,68,51,787 samples have been tested in the country so far. A total of 1,74,64,99,461 vaccine doses have been administered in the country. Amid the downward trend in the nationwide Covid-19 case trajectory, the Central Government on Wednesday asked states and Union Territories to review, amend or do away with additional coronavirus restrictions after reviewing the situation in their regions. Sharp dip in Punjab Covid cases In a letter to chief secretaries and chief administrators of all states and UTs, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said Covid-19 cases in India were showing a declining trend since January 21. “Currently, as the case trajectory across the nation is showing a sustained downward trend, it will be useful if states/UTs review and amend/do away with the additional restrictions so imposed after considering the trend of new cases, active cases and positivity within the state and UT,” he said.
