Covid-19: Amid global spike, India's daily cases drop below 2000 mark
New Delhi, March 20: While several countries across the world are witnessing a fresh Covid-19 wave, India continued to see a downward trend with daily cases dropping below the 2,000 mark on Sunday. According to the government data, as many as 4,31,973 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and 1,761 new cases were found positive across the country. On Saturday, India had logged 2,075 Covid cases. Now, the active caseload of the country has declined to 26,240, accounting for 0.06 percent of the country's total positive cases. Total 3,196 people recovered from the Covid infection in the last 24 hours, increasing the cumulative tally to 4,24,65,122, as per the update by Government. The recovery rate has improved to 98.74 percent. Furthermore, both the daily and weekly positivity rates are recorded at 0.41 percent. With 127 deaths in the last 23 hours, the country's death toll has risen to 5,16,479. The fatality rate in this is 1.20 percent. According to preliminary reports as of 7 a.m. Sunday, a total of 1,81,21,11,675 vaccine doses have been administered. Over 17 lakh vaccine doses have been given to children aged 12 to 14, with vaccinations beginning on March 16 this year. In this age group, 17,36,464 children have received their first dose of the Corbevax vaccine. So far, 2,17,33,502 people have received the 'precaution dose,' which has been provided to frontline employees, healthcare workers, and those over the age of 60. In the age group of 15-18 years, 5,62,03,581 children have been administered the first dose and 3,54,81,792 have received the second dose of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, the only vaccine being given to the category. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry in a statement stated that more than 183.52 crore (1,83,52,25,060) vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far through the government's free of cost channel and through direct state procurement category. More than 17.04 crore (17,04,30,756) balance and unutilized Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States and UTs to be administered, it added.
