Coronavirus update: India reports 2.86 lakh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours
India Covid Update: India reported 2,86,384 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's active caseload to 22,02,472, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. India's active caseload now amounts to 5.46 percent of the total number of Covid-19 infections reported so far. Meanwhile, 573 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the infection. As per the latest government health update, the daily positivity rate is 19.59 percent and the weekly positivity rate stands at 17.75 percent. Also Read | Punjab extends Covid restrictions till February 1; read details In the last 24 hours, 3,06,357 recoveries were reported, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,76,77,328. The current recovery rate is 93.33 percent. However, the Covid death toll in the country has climbed to 4,91,700. Furthermore, as many as 14,62,261 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. According to the Ministry's official's update, over 72.21 crore Covid tests have been conducted in India so far. Over 163.84 crore vaccine doses have been administered as part of the ongoing nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive. However, amid the increase in Covid cases in India, the Haryana government extended Covid-related restrictions in the state till February 10. Meanwhile, an ICMR study found that those infected with Omicron have a strong immune response that can neutralise not just Omicron but also other severe variants, such as the most common Delta strain. It suggests that the Omicron-induced immune response could effectively neutralise the Delta variant, making re-infection with the Delta variant less likely and, as a result, displacing the Delta as the dominant strain.
