Punjab tally rises to 158 after Mohali, Pathankot, Jalandhar and Patiala report new cases

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Punjab has increased to 158 after fresh cases were reported from Mohali, Patiala, Jalandhar, and Pathankot on Saturday. As per the media bulletin issued by the Punjab Health Department, a total of 7 cases were reported by Saturday evening. The Jawaharpur village Derabassi, Mohali, reported 2 new cases. It was a new family in the village, who are the neighbours of the coronavirus victim. Jawaharpur has reported a total of 34 cases so far. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Mohali has reached 50. Meanwhile, one case was reported each from Pathankot and Patiala. Likewise, Jalandhar reported 3 new cases. Pathankot has reported 16 cases so far, while Jalandhar tally has increased to 15. As per the bulletin, the state has recorded 12 deaths so far. Kovid-19 patients from 3 districts to be treated at Medical College, Shahbad Earlier on Wednesday, a 55-year-old man, a resident of Morinda, Ropar, died due to coronavirus in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. Likewise, Barnala reported its first death after a woman (resident of Barnala), who passed away in Ludhiana, tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. Punjab Curfew Extended

Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday extended the curfew/lockdown in the state till May 1. Captain Amarinder Singh took to Twitter and wrote: "Given the seriousness of the situation arising out of COVID 19, Cabinet has decided to extend lockdown and curfew till 1st May. These are difficult times and I appeal to all to stay home stay safe and strictly observe health safeguards as you have done so far, for which I am thankful." -PTC News
