Punjab reports 24 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours; total count 130
The total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has increased to 130 after fresh cases were reported from Jawaharpur village in Derabassi, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, and Mansa. Meanwhile, the death toll in Punjab has reached 11. Sri Muktsar Sahib reported the first case of coronavirus after a 17-year-old, who attended Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin, tested positive for the pandemic. Likewise, Ludhiana reported four cases in total. Meanwhile, 7 new cases were reported from Jawaharpur village in Derabassi, Mohali. Jawaharpur itself has reported 22 cases so far. The total number of coronavirus cases in Mohali district has reached 37. Meanwhile, it is pertinent to mention that Mohali is having the highest number of coronavirus cases in the state so far. Jalandhar reported 4 new cases of the pandemic while Sangrur reported its first case of coronavirus. Meanwhile, Mansa announced 6 new cases, all are related to the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi. On Wednesday, a 55-year-old man, a resident of Morinda, Ropar, died due to coronavirus in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. It was the first death due to coronavirus in Ropar. Likewise, Jalandhar reported its first death after a 59-year-old man passed away due to coronavirus in Jalandhar. Punjab Chief Secretary, KBS Sidhu, said that "Parveen Kumar, 59, a resident of Mitha Bazar, Jalandhar, coronavirus positive patient expired around midnight. Dead body in mortuary--he was on a ventilator for the last 2 days. The district administration working out modalities for cremation as per standard protocol."
