Coronavirus: Maharashtra and Punjab are of grave concern, says Centre
Amid growing concerns over the rising coronavirus cases in India, the Health Ministry stated that Maharashtra and Punjab were of grave concern. Two states are of grave concern, that showed a recent surge in cases. These are Maharashtra, which reported more than 28,000 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, and Punjab, which reported a huge number of cases in proportion to its population, said Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. Gujarat has been reporting around 1700 cases daily and Madhya Pradesh around 1500 cases, he said. Adding, he said that most cases in Gujarat concentrated in Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. In MP, it's concentrated in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Betul. Also Read | Delhi government names four ‘superspreader’ areas Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 28,699 followed by Punjab with 2,254 while Karnataka reported 2,010 new cases of coronavirus. Eight States have reported a higher weekly positivity rate than the national average (4.11%). These states are Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Punjab, Puducherry, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana. Maharashtra is leading with a weekly positivity rate of 20.53%. Likewise, India’s total Active Caseload has reached 3,68,457 on Wednesday, comprising 3.14 percent of the total Positive Cases.
