Coronavirus: India records biggest-ever single-day spike in both new cases and deaths

Coronavirus India Updates: Amid the second wave of coronavirus, India once again recorded the biggest-ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with nearly 3 lakh fresh infections in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Health Ministry on Wednesday. India reported 2,95,041 new cases of coronavirus, 2,023 deaths, and 1,67,457 discharges in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry stated while giving coronavirus updates about India. Coronavirus India Updates: Amid second wave of coronavirus, India recorded biggest-ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases. With 2,023 new deaths, India also recorded the highest number of deaths in a span of 24 hours. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases has increased to 1,56,16,130 including 1,32,76,039 recoveries, 1,82,553 deaths and 21,57,538 active cases. A total of 13,01,19,310 people have been vaccinated so far. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 27,10,53,392 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to April 20, 2021. Of these, 16,39,357 samples were tested on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Delhi, the worst-hit city in the country, recorded 28,395 COVID-19 cases, 277 deaths, both the highest in a day so far. The positivity rate in the national capital is over 32 percent, the Health Department stated. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation over the COVID-19 situation in the country. He said that "We need to save the country from lockdown; I request states to use lockdown as last resort and focus should be on the micro-containment zone."
