India reports 62,538 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours; tally crosses 20 lakh
Coronavirus India Cases Today: The total number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 20-lakh mark with the highest single-day spike of 62,538 cases in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. The coronavirus tally in India increased to 20,27,075 out of which 6,07,384 are active cases, 13,78,106 have been cured and discharged while 41,585 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. India took 110 days for coronavirus cases in India to reach one lakh and 59 days more to cross the 10-lakh mark while it took just 21 days more to go past 20 lakh. Meanwhile, India reported more than 50,000 coronavirus cases for the ninth day in a row. The death toll in India has climbed to 41,585 with 886 people succumbing to the contagion disease in the last 24 hours, the data stated. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 2,27,88,393 samples have been tested for coronavirus infection up to August 6 out of which 6,39,042 were tested on Thursday. While India has crossed the 20-lakh mark, Brazil, the second worst-affected nation has a total of 2,917,562 cases. -PTC News
