India records highest single-day spike of 78,761 cases taking national COVID tally past 35 lakh
India's COVID-19 case tally has crossed 35 lakh-mark with a spike of 78,761 new cases and 948 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Sunday morning. A total of 64,935 COVID patients were declared cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. The coronavirus case tally in the country stands at 35,42,734 including 7,65,302 active cases, 27,13,934 cured and discharged and 63,498 deaths, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples tested up to August 29 is 4,14,61,636 including 10,55,027 samples were tested on Saturday. Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 7,64,281 confirmed cases of coronavirus out of which 1,85,467 are active cases while 5,54,711 have been recovered and 24,103 died due to the pandemic. Delhi, once used to be the third worst-affected state, stands at 6th spot with 1,71,366 cases out of which 14,040 are active cases, 1,52,922 have been cured while 3,356 COVID patients succumbed to the pandemic. -PTC News
