India reports 37,148 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours
India reported a spike of 37,148 new coronavirus cases and 587 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Tuesday morning. The total number of coronavirus positive cases has increased to 11,55,191 out of which 4,02,529 are active cases while 7,24,578 have been cured and discharged and 28,084 died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,43,81,303 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to July 20 out of which 3,33,395 were tested on Monday. Assam, which is currently dealing with the floods and virus at the same time, reported 1,093 COVID-19 cases on July 20, including 448 cases from Guwahati city. Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Health Minister, stated that the total number of cases in the state stands at 25,092, including 17,095 discharged, 7,936 active cases and 58 deaths. Earlier on Monday, the AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria had said that if you look at the data from Southeast Asia, not just India, the mortality rate is much lower than what happened in Italy and Spain or what is happening in the United States.
