Chandigarh reports 11 new cases of coronavirus; UT count 216
Chandigarh has reported 11 new cases of the novel coronavirus from Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26 on Thursday, taking the city count to 216. Of the new cases, 9 of them are from two households on different floors of one house and the rest from another house. In a relief, three contacts of a positive case of a rehabilitation colony in Dhanas have tested negative for the pandemic. However, one of the samples has to be repeated. Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the city now stands at 77. The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, on Wednesday stated that "The matter of relief for Chandigarh as the active cases have reduced. Many patients have been discharged after getting the treatment in 3 medical institutions to the Post Discharge Centres. The total focus will now be on Containment Zones." Also, he said that the supply of essentials items through Administration Machinery is ensured in containment zones as the areas are completely cordoned off. He also appealed to the trader's associations, market associations and Shop Owners to ensure social distancing and hygiene practices in their business premises.
