Congress Working Committee to meet on Sunday after poor show in five states
The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest decision-making body, has been scheduled to meet at the party's headquarters in Delhi on Sunday at 4 p.m. This would be the first CWC meeting following the party's poor performance in the recent assembly elections which were held in five states - Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, and Goa. The Bharatiya Janata Party grabbed a stunning win in all four states except Punjab. The saffron party retained power in all four states it had previously ruled, while the Congress lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Even in the four states, the grand old party was unable to mount a serious opposition. According to sources, the Congress leaders will discuss the poll debacle in the five states as well as the country's present political situation. Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress, will preside over the meeting.
