Congress panel recommends two-year suspension for Sunil Jakhar, KV Thomas for 'indiscipline'
New Delhi, April 26: The Congress disciplinary committee, which met on Tuesday, has recommended the suspension of two-year each for former Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar and former Union Food Minister KV Thomas for 'indiscipline'. The final decision would, however, be taken by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The Congress disciplinary committee, headed by former Defence Minister AK Antony, has sent the recommendations to Sonia Gandhi. Notably, AK Antony-led panel had served a show-cause notice on Sunil on January 11, but he failed to reply. Jakhar is facing disciplinary action for failing to reply to the show- cause notice. The panel had given Sunil Jakhar a week’s time to respond. Thomas had responded, but the reply was not found to be satisfactory, panel member Tariq Anwar said. Panel member Tariq Anwar said they had served show-cause notices on both leaders and sought their replies within a week, but they did not receive Sunil Jakhar's reply. The disciplinary committee met on Tuesday and recommended a two-year suspension for both leaders. On the eve of Punjab Assembly elections, Sunil Jakhar had said "he got the maximum 42 MLA votes in the race for Punjab chief ministership after Captain Amarinder Singh was removed, Sukhjinder Randhawa got 16, Charanjit Singh Channi, the Congress’ pick for the post two votes, Navjot Sidhu six and Preneet Kaur 12." After the Congress party’s poll debacle in Punjab, Jakhar also went on to describe then CM Channi as a liability for the Congress in Punjab.
