Congress' meet to discuss plan of action against 'police atrocities' on party MLAs
New Delhi, June 16: A meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries, in-charges, MPs, and senior leaders is currently taking place in Delhi at the party headquarters to discuss a plan of action in response to Wednesday's alleged police atrocities on party legislators and 'brutal crackdown' on Congress leaders, party leader KC Venugopal informed on Thursday.
Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken, both senior Congress leaders, are present at the meeting. Several Congress leaders were detained as Rahul Gandhi spent over 24 hours at the Enforcement Directorate's office on Wednesday, the third day of his questioning in connection with the money laundering case concerning the National Herald newspaper.
Earlier on Wednesday, Congress leaders and workers clashed with police during a protest in the national capital, despite prohibitory orders and no permission to stage a protest by the Delhi Police.
Senior leaders have been detained and reportedly barred from entering the AICC office over the last few days as Rahul is being questioned by ED. During a standoff, police claimed protesters threw barricades at them, but they denied charges that they forcibly stormed into Congress office and beat up workers.
