New Delhi, April 11: A violent clash broke out between students backed by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Left-backed students on the occasion of Ram Navmi on Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in the national capital on Sunday. According to police, at least six individuals from both sides were injured. However, students claim that as many as 15 from each side have been injured in the clash. The injured were taken to hospital. The ABVP, the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday protested at the JNU campus, demanding that non-vegetarian food should not be prepared in the mess on Ram Navami. The BJP student wing further accused the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Left-backed students of preventing them from worshipping on Ram Navami. They have a problem with programs on the occasion of Ram Navami," said the ABVP's JNU wing president, Rohit Kumar. On Sunday, the supply arrived at the hostel but was allegedly turned away by ABVP activists. Following this, a meet against ABVP's imposition of their "right to food" was called by a left-wing student group. Delhi police have received a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF and AISA on Monday morning against unknown ABVP students.
