Chandigarh makes wearing masks compulsory in public places

Chandigarh, April 18: Keeping the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in view, the Chandigarh administration on Monday made the wearing of masks compulsory in public places. According to the orders issued by the health department, "all the residents of UT Chandigarh are advised to bear face masks in the crowded places." The order further states that the wearing of masks must be especially ensured in the closed environments like - during the whole journey in the public transport (like buses, trains, aircraft and taxis etc); during stay inside cinema halls, shopping malls and departmental stores etc; during stay inside classrooms, office rooms, indoor gatherings. The decision comes on the day Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments announced the wearing of masks compulsory in the NCR regions. Earlier, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij announced that wearing masks has been made compulsory in Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar districts due to an uptick in Covid infections in Gurugram. Also Read | Lt Gen Manoj Pande appointed new Indian Army Chief Masks mandatory in these Haryana districts While in UP, wearing face masks in public places has been mandatory in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Baghpat and Lucknow. The Covid restriction in several states and UTs comes as India sees an uptick in Covid-19 cases. After a steady decline in new Covid cases for the past several weeks, India's on Sunday witnessed a jump of 89.8 percent in Covid-19 infections. Masks mandatory in these Haryana districts According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the daily case positivity rate also saw a sudden rise from 0.31 percent (on Sunday) to 0.83 percent (on Monday).
