Punjab human rights body takes note of waterlogging on Chandigarh-Ambala highway
Chandigarh, July 27: The Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has taken suo motu notice of a news article highlighting poor drainage and waterlogging on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway. The commission has called for a report from the Regional Office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Panchkula to investigate the matter. The news article, published on July 25, reported waterlogging on a 2-kilometer stretch of the highway.
The commission, headed by Justice Sant Parkash, reviewed the detailed news item and directed the Regional Office of NHAI to submit a report on the complaint by the next date of hearing, which is scheduled for October 25.
Additionally, the PSHRC also took suo motu notice of a separate news article published on the same day about a fire incident at a factory in Chandigarh's Industrial Area Phase-II. The fire resulted in the tragic deaths of two girls due to asphyxia, and three others were injured. An FIR has been registered against the factory owner under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
Regarding this incident, the commission directed the senior superintendent of police in Chandigarh to provide a fresh status report on the FIR by the next hearing, set for August 31.
Furthermore, the commission issued a notice to the SSP of Mohali concerning the case of a 10-year-old girl who went missing from Gur Aasra Trust in Sector 78 on July 14.
