Chandigarh tragedy : A tragic incident occurred at Elante Mall in Chandigarh on Saturday night, claiming the life of an 11-year-old boy, Shahbaz Singh, from Nawanshahr, Punjab.
Shahbaz was enjoying a ride on a toy train when the compartment he was seated in overturned, leading to severe head injuries.
His body was returned to his parents after an autopsy at GMCH-32 on Sunday evening.
Based on the parents' statement, the Industrial Area Phase-1 police have filed a case against the toy train driver and the mall management under relevant sections of the IPC.
Shahbaz Singh had travelled to Chandigarh with his family, including his father Jatinder Pal Singh, mother, and his cousin's family, for a day out. The group decided to visit Elante Mall, one of the popular destinations in the city.
Around 9:30 pm, Shahbaz and his cousin boarded the toy train for a fun ride.
The boys were seated in the last compartment of the toy train when it unexpectedly overturned, causing Shahbaz to fall and suffer severe head injuries. His cousin escaped unharmed.
The family rushed Shahbaz to GMCH-32 for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries. Industrial Area Phase-1 police were notified and transferred Shahbaz's body to the mortuary for an autopsy. The postmortem examination was conducted on Sunday, after which the body was released to the grieving parents
Jatinder Pal Singh, the boy's father, lodged a police complaint, leading to a case being registered against the toy train operator, Saurav, and the mall management under relevant sections of the IPC. Investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of stringent safety standards in amusement rides. As the investigation continues, there is a collective hope that measures will be implemented to prevent future tragedies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons.
