Centre scraps Chandigarh's 'advisor' post; redesignate as 'chief secretary'
PTC News Desk: In a significant development in administrative structure of Chandigarh, the central government has scrapped the post of 'UT's advisor' and redesignated to 'chief secretary'. Also, the total number of posts of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the UT Chandigarh has been increased from 9 to 11.
"The ministry of personnel through a gazette notification has put the post of ‘chief secretary' at the top of Chandigarh's bureaucratic hierarchy and abolished the post of ‘UT adviser'," said a UT official.
With the administrative amendment, centre has also asserted that the change was in the nomenclature and that the powers and role of the post remains the same. "In protocol, this also brings it at par with the chief secretaries of other states. The Government of India ‘order of precedence' does not even mention a post ‘UT adviser to administrator' but mentions chief secretaries. It adds more to the prestige of the post though work remains the same," said the official.
Currently the post of 'UT advisor remains only in two UTs - Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep.
