Champawat bypoll: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami wins by over 54,000 votes
Champawat bypoll: Uttarakhand Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami won the Champawat byelection by more than 55,000 votes. The BJP leader had to win the bypoll to remain as chief minister. Dhami had been sworn into the state's top post in March after the ruling BJP retained power in the Assembly election 2022, but he lost his individual race from Khatima to Congress. “My heart is very emotional with the love and blessings showered by you through votes in Champawat by-election, I am silent,” the chief minister tweeted in Hindi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Chief Minister Dhami on his electoral win. Dhami defeated Congress candidate Nirmala Gahtori, Samajwadi Party candidate Manoj Kumar Bhatt, and an independent candidate, Himanshu Garkoti. In the February-March election, he was defeated by the Congress' Bhuwan Chandra Kapri by 6,579 votes.
