Centre launches indigenous vaccine for lumpy skin disease
New Delhi, August 10: In a major relief to the livestock of the country, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar launched the indigenous vaccine Lumpi-ProVac to protect livestock from Lumpy skin disease, on Wednesday.
The National Equine Research Center in Hisar, Haryana, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Izzatnagar worked together to develop the vaccine (Bareilly). Tomar stated that livestock is the nation's greatest asset while introducing the vaccine.
Research centres have been working to develop the vaccine ever since the disease arrived in India in 2019.
Tomar lauded the scientists from the Veterinary Research Institute and Equine Research Center for creating the Lumpy disease vaccine, which will be successful in eradicating the disease. The vaccine met all requirements 100% of the time.

Tomar also instructed the concerned officials to give this vaccine to the cattle as soon as possible in large quantities. He asserted that there is 30 crore livestock in the nation and that all possible steps should be taken to ease the plight of mute animals as soon as possible.
Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala; Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary; Secretary Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Jatindra Nath Swain; Director General of ICAR, Dr Himanshu Pathak; Deputy Director General Dr B.N. Tripathi; Dr Triveni Dutt Director, Indian Veterinary Research Institute; Dr Yashpal, Director, National Equine Research Center and other senior officers were in attendance.
