Canadian envoy summoned by MEA and told Canada's involvement in farmers protest not acceptable
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday summoned Canadian High Commissioner and informed them that the comments by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Cabinet ministers relating to the farmers protest in India are unacceptable. The Canadian High Commissioner was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs and was informed that the comments by Justin Trudeau, some Canadian Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament on farmers protest in India are unacceptable interference in our internal affairs. "These comments have encouraged gatherings of extremist activities in front of our High Commission and Consulates in Canada that raise issues of safety and security," the MEA added. It further said that "We expect the Canadian Government to ensure the fullest security of Indian diplomatic personnel and its political leaders to refrain from pronouncements that legitimize extremist activism." Earlier this month, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had said that Canada will always stand to protect the rights to peaceful demonstrations.
