Calcutta High Court reserves verdict in Birbhum violence in West Bengal
New Delhi, March 24: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict in the Birbhum violence in West Bengal. It comes a day after the HC took suo motu cognizance of the killing of eight persons at Bogtui village.
While declining a plea for a Central Burau of Investigation (CBI)probe into the matter, the Calcutta High Court Division Bench had on Wednesday directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to produce the case diary and other relevant documents before it by 2 pm on Thursday.

The HC also instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide security to the vulnerable witnesses. It also directed the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi, to visit the crime scene and collect evidence.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress Rampurhat-1 block president Anarul Hossain was arrested on Thursday in connection with the killings at Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
He was arrested from Tarapith within hours of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directing the police to nab him for not paying attention to local people’s apprehension of possible disturbance in the area.
Searches were conducted in various parts of the district, including Hossain’s residence, after which he was nabbed from Tarapith. Hossain was picked up from near a hotel after the police tracked his cellphone tower location.

The local TMC leader would be questioned over the Birbhum violence in which eight persons were burnt alive on Tuesday.
