CAA Protests: Scuffle between ABVP, NSUI students at Panjab University, five detained

CAA Protests: A major scuffle broke out at the Student’s Centre of Panjab University in Chandigarh on Wednesday between students from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Meanwhile, the police have detained five NSUI members and released them later. The ABVP members were conducting a protest in support of the citizenship amendment law from Girl’s Hostel 4 to the PU Students’ Centre, where they met students belonging to NSUI. The NSUI members started chanting slogans against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Ajay Sood, Secretary for ABVP Chandigarh, said "We were conducting peaceful march and suddenly NSUI students and members from some Left parties came in front of us. A scuffle took place between the members, but the police arrived and sorted it out." https://www.ptcnews.tv/cbse-10th-12th-date-sheet-2020-exams-will-begin-from-february-15/ Meanwhile, NSUI’s Manpreet Singh Mahal, said "The police broke up the clash and detained five members, including the campus President NSUI Ashish Pal, and the vice-president of the student council Rahul Kumar. They did not detain any ABVP students. All of them have been released by the police with a warning." The detained students were taken to Sector 11 police station. They were released by late evening. Inspector Rajeev Kumar from the Sector 11 police station said that "The ABVP students had booked the place to protest, so NSUI members shouldn’t have put up its own posters. This could have potentially incite more violence." -PTC News
