Existing PAN holders would receive an upgraded card with additional features.
The new PAN card will have sophisticated features such as a QR code for increased security and faster validation.
The ministry said that the upgrade will be free. The upgraded PAN card will be provided to taxpayers at no additional cost.
No, you do not need to apply for a new PAN card. Ashwini Vaishnaw affirmed that the existing PAN cards will remain valid. However, you will be given an upgraded PAN card with new features.
Vaishnaw emphasised the benefits, stating, "The PAN 2.0 Project resonates with the Government's vision enshrined in Digital India by enabling the use of PAN as a Common Identifier for all digital systems of specified government agencies."
Businesses will benefit from a centralised system for PAN/TAN services. "We'll see if it can serve as a common business identifier," Vaishnaw stated. "A unified portal will be established, which will be entirely paperless and online, with a strong focus on grievance redressal."
