At 24,838, the NSE Nifty 50 index reached a new high and increased by more than 200 points.

Market hits record highs: Sensex surpasses 81,000, Nifty soars 200 points

PTC News Desk: Stock indices surged on Thursday, with the BSE Sensex rising more than 800 points to a new all-time high of 81,523. At 24,838, the NSE Nifty 50 index reached a new high and increased by more than 200 points.

The 30-share BSE Sensex began the day weakly but subsequently recovered, rising 193.9 points to reach a new record height of 80,910.45. The benchmark, however, was unable to maintain its gains and by 11:22 a.m., it was trading 151.38 points lower at 80,550.97.


Similar to this, the NSE Nifty gained the ground it had lost in the early going and surged 65.9 points to reach a new all-time high of 24,678.90 after starting weakly. Additionally, the Nifty gave up all of its gains, closing at 24,546.65 down 66.35 points.

The largest laggards in the Sensex pack were Adani Ports, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, NTPC, Power Grid, and UltraTech Cement.

Conversely, trading in the positive region were Tech Mahindra, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finserv, Hindustan Unilever, and Tata Consultancy Services. Hong Kong quoted higher while Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai saw lower trade on Asian markets.

On Wednesday, the US markets finished primarily lower. The benchmark for world oil, Brent crude, increased 0.45% to USD 85.45 a barrel. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased stocks on Tuesday worth Rs 1,271.45 crore.

Due to Muharram, the stock markets were closed on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the benchmark for the BSE increased by 51.69 points, or 0.06 per cent, to reach a new all-time high of 80,716.55. The NSE Nifty reached an all-time closing high of 24,613, up 26.30 points, or 0.11 percent.
