Significance of Muhurat Trading
The Diwali period is traditionally seen as the start of a new financial year for many Indian stockbrokers, with investors buying shares for good fortune and prosperity. According to a Mint report, the BSE Sensex has closed higher in 13 of the past 17 Muhurat trading sessions, with the largest gain of 5.86% recorded in 2008, a time known for market volatility.
The Muhurat trading session spans all market segments, including equities, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options (F&O), and securities lending and borrowing (SLB).
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will also hold its Muhurat trading session from 6 pm to 7 pm, with a client code modification window open until 7.15 pm.
