Bus service hit as Punbus, PRTC contractual staff go on 3-day strike
Chandigarh, August 14: The contractual staff of Punbus and PRTC across Punjab have decided to go on strike for three days, beginning Sunday. Contractual employees, according to sources, have parked their buses in the workshops, and only buses with regular employees will operate. This comes after several unsuccessful meetings between unions of employees and the Transport Minister and the Transport Secretary. The strike will start on August 14 and continue till August 16. Sources said that PUNBUS and PRTC buses of 27 depots in Ludhiana will not ply on Sunday. The contractual employees will stage a protest outside depots. The employees claim that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the Punjab elections 2022 made tall claims of fulfilling promises made to staffers if voted to power. However, the department is even having difficulty making payroll for the contractual employees, and nothing is being done to regularise them.
