BSF troops seize heroin worth crores in Punjab's Abohar, Amritsar
Amritsar/Abohar, May 3: BSF troops deployed on patrolling duty seized heroin near Jodhawala village in Abohar sector, Punjab, on Monday evening. According to information, BSF troops noticed a suspected person hiding near Majar located adjacent to border fence towards India side in the area near Jodhawala village in Punjab's Abohar sector. As soon as the person was challenged by the BSF patrolling party, he managed to escape on a bike parked along the link road. During a thorough search of the area, two plastic bottles filled with heroin and wrapped in a pouch were recovered near the border fence. The menace of drug smuggling continues unabated in Punjab. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Customs Department seized over 100 kg of heroin worth around Rs 500 crore at the Indo-Pak border in Punjab's Amritsar a few days ago. Close on the heels of this seizure, the Border Security Force (BSF) confiscated heroin worth Rs 11 crore dumped by Pakistani smugglers in the fields of Indian farmers in Amritsar on Tuesday. The contraband was thrown in two socks. According to information, two packets were found in one sock and one packet in another, which weighed about one-and-a-half kilogram. The international market value of the contraband is around Rs 11 crore. Notably, the work of harvesting and collecting straw is going on across the border. The BSF has deployed guards to keep an eye on farmers and labour. On Sunday, farmer Dilbag Singh was arrested with 1.020 kg of heroin. The accused also named one another person, Puran Singh, during interrogation, following which the latter was also arrested. Puran Singh owns five acre on the border. Many smugglers from India and Pakistan were in their contact. A senior police official said the accused used to hand over the consignment to smugglers based in Delhi and other parts of Punjab.
