PM Modi releases coin, stamp on Guru Tegh Bahadur's 400th Prakash Purab

Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti 2022 or Prakash Purab 2022 is celebrated to mark the birth of the Ninth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Tegh Bahadur and to remember his life and teachings. This year it is being observed on Thursday to celebrate the 400th year of his birth anniversary.


On the occasion of

400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur

, Prime Minister will stortly address the nation on the 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji from the historic Red Fort on April 21. A commemorative coin and postage stamp will also be released on the occasion.

India is indebted to Sikh Gurus, we are free country due to their supreme sacrifice, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah as he particiapted in the celebration of the 400th Parkash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur at the historic Red Fort. Home Minister further said that Guru Tegh Bahadur stood out from an early age for his qualities of sacrifice and valour. He was martyred for standing up against the atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits and is respected as Hind Ki Chaddar across the globe.

Recalling how Guru Tegh Bahadur was executed for advocating the religious freedom of Kashmiri Pandits on the orders of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, Shah said - while those indulging in beheadings had gone, crores of people follow the path and remember the sacrifice of the Guru even after 400 years. "There is no person in the country who is not aware of the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur. People from every religion respect him," he added.
