Bali: FM Sitharaman meets Indonesian artist known for his works on Ramayana, Mahabharata
Bali (Indonesia), July 16: At the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Bali, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met Indonesian artist Wayan Dibia, a Padma Shri recipient known for his works on exploring epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Dibia, a renowned artist and scholar from Bali, has created more than 150 unique dance works, most of which focus on the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
"Smt.@nsitharaman interacts with Mr I Wayan Dibia, respected artist and scholar of performing arts from Bali, during her visit to Indonesia. He has created more than 150 new works on dance and dance dramas, mostly exploring Ramayana and Mahabharata," the Office of Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted on July 14.
The most influential Kecak dancer and scholar in Bali, Wayan Dibia, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 for his contributions to the arts. Kecak is a traditional Indonesian art form that depicts scenes from the Ramayana.
"Mr Dibia was conferred with Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2021 for his contribution in the field of arts," it said.

Dibia, who comes from a family of artists, started learning Balinese dance and music when he was eight years old and has studied various forms of classical Balinese dance and drama from different masters on the island.
Beginning in 1970, Dibia began experimenting with traditional Balinese performing arts elements to produce fresh works for modern audiences.
The Indonesian dancer has created a large number of fresh dances and dramas.
His creative works have also received widespread acclaim and have been displayed on numerous significant occasions and at international art festivals.
