Avalanche hits Mt Trishul in Uttarakhand; 5 Navy personnel missing
Five members of a mountaineering expedition team of the Indian Navy went missing after an avalanche hit Mt Trishul in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand on Friday. Navy officials said a multi-agency team had been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations. However, they were caught in the avalanche. "While five of the 10 climbers are safe, search and rescue operations for the remaining five personnel is underway in coordination with the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and State Disaster Response Force," Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
