Auto, cab drivers call for strike on April 12 in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula
Chandigarh, April 10: The auto-rickshaw and taxi union in Chandigarh has called for a strike on Tuesday to protest against the increasing CNG and fuel prices. The “Cab Auto Sanyukt Morcha (CASM)” will hold “Chakka jam” in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula on Tuesday (April 12). The union has, however, exempted emergency services from the scope of the strike. “Prices of compressed natural gas (CNG), petrol, and diesel have been increasing continuously. Auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers will be on strike on April 12, allowing only emergency services,” stated a member of the drivers’ union. According to the association, there are 40,000 drivers in the Tricity and their livelihoods are in jeopardy due to rising petrol, diesel and CNG prices. The union went on to say that neither their aggregator companies nor the administration took care of them. On the other side, cab companies are also hesitant to increase the rate. In such a situation, where should auto-cab drivers go,” the association added. The CASM leader further demanded that the fuel prices be brought down. “The price of CNG has surged from Rs 45 to Rs 82 in the Tricity. We will intensify our agitation if the government doesn’t listen to our demands to lower the fuel prices,” he added. The fuel prices in the Union Territory (UT) on Sunday remained unchanged, with petrol costing Rs 104.74 per litre and diesel Rs 90.83. Since March 22, fuel prices have seen a spike of Rs 10 per litre after 14 revisions. Also Read | Imran Khan loses no-trust vote, ousted as Pakistan PM -PTC News
