Another Dussehra-like tragedy averted at Amritsar’s Joda Phatak

Amritsar, August 30: A 2018 Dussehra-like tragedy was averted at Amritsar's Joda Phatak on Monday. As per sources, commuters continue to pass through at Joda Phatak even when a train is scheduled to arrive at the same timing. A similar incident was reported this morning when commuters were still crossing the railway line and the train scheduled to pass from there arrived. Sending trouble, the driver slowed down the train and then applied brakes, thereby averting a major tragedy. Sources said although a staffer at the railway crossing tried to stop vehicles and crowd, due to huge rush, the train driver had to apply the brakes. Earlier, in year 2018, a tragic incident took place at Joda Phatak in Amritsar in which 60 persons were crushed to death by a speeding train while watching the burning of a Ravana effigy at Joda Phatak.
