PTC Web Desk: American-Sikh lawyer Jaspreet Singh has reached out to US Vice-President Kamala Harris to intervene for the release of Amritpal Singh from jail.
Amritpal Singh, an Independent candidate who won the Khadoor-Sahib seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, has been lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail on terror allegations. Jaspreet Singh claims to have thoroughly studied the case and believes Amritpal Singh's arrest is "unjust".
The Waris Punjab De chief was arrested in April 2023 following his surrender in Punjab's Moga District. He had been on the run for more than a month. Punjab Police used the rigorous National Security Act (NSA) against him.
Jaspreet Singh intends to meet with over a hundred American congressmen to press the Indian government for Amritpal Singh's release.
"I have met her twice in the last two or three months. I spoke to him about immigration issues. I spoke to him about this. He gave me time to come to his office. I will meet him on June 11, Tuesday," Jaspreet Singh stated in a YouTube video.
"Amritpal Singh's victory was a landslide, and his continued detention raises serious questions about human rights," Jaspreet Singh added.
Jaspreet Singh, who represents different Sikh organisations in America and has a large client base in the US, stated that the case has received attention from multiple American leaders, including Vice President Kamala Harris, with whom Singh has met.
