'Historic visit': US President Biden lauds PM Modi's Ukraine visit
US President Joe Biden lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "historic visits" to Poland and Ukraine as well as his message of peace, the White House said in a statement.

Notably, the US President had a telephonic conversation with the Indian PM during which they discussed latter's trip to two European nations and the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings in September.
"The President commended the Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine, including its energy sector," the statement from White House read.
Prime Minister Modi and President Biden reiterated their commitment to a "peaceful resolution" of the dispute "in accordance with international law, on the basis of the UN Charter."
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to working together, including through regional groups such as the Quad, to promote peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office stated that Prime Minister Modi informed Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine and emphasised India's consistent support for discussion and diplomacy.
PM Modi and Biden discussed a number of global and regional issues. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in multilateral fora, particularly the Quad.
"While discussing the situation in Ukraine, the Prime Minister briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. He reiterated India's consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for early return of peace and stability," it added.
PM Modi paid his first visit to Ukraine on Friday, making history as the first Indian prime minister to do so.
During his bilateral discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi underlined India's position of resolving the conflict via dialogue and diplomacy.
"India was never neutral; we have always supported peace," Prime Minister Modi told Zelenskyy. He stated that India was prepared to take an active role on the path to peace and growth.
