US: Cop drives cruiser into woman pointing gun at traffic, video goes viral
Viral Video: A shocking video, showing a quick-thinking Long Island cop using his police vehicle to sideswipe a woman who was waving a gun at the traffic, has been going viral on social media.
The video shows the woman holding a gun and pointing it at vehicles approaching at a busy intersection. As she walks backwards, she turns the gun on herself just as a police cruiser slams into her, knocking her to the ground.
According to NBC New York, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (local time) in Nassau County. According to authorities, the 33-year-old woman is being treated for minor injuries. Her identity has not been revealed.
According to NBC New York, she was at the intersection of Bellmore and Jerusalem avenues in North Bellmore and even fired the gun once.
After receiving a call, police arrived at the scene at 2.20 pm (local time). A police cruiser hit her as she pointed the revolver at her head, knocking her to the ground.
"Drop the gun!" yells one cop as he races toward the woman.
In trying to get up, the woman reached for the gun, but another cop appeared and tackled her, as seen in the video.
"It's a loaded gun that she's waving around in the traffic, pointing at people that have got their children and their families in their cars," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.
The cop who hit the woman was taken to another hospital for trauma treatment. The unidentified officer was dubbed a hero by Commissioner Ruder.
"They did an outstanding job. They faced down deadly physical force against the civilians and themselves and they used their vehicle to stop their threat," he stated.
