PTC News Desk: In a major effort to woo women voters, Donald Trump has now claimed that he is the father of IVF. During a town hall event in Georgia, Republican presidential candidate Trump referred to himself as the father of in-vitro fertilisation. During the event, Trump responded to a question from host Harris Faulkner, stating, “I'm the father of IVF, so I want to hear this question.” He went on to claim that the Republican Party supports IVF, saying, “We really are the party for IVF. We want fertilisation, and it's all the way, and the Democrats tried to attack us on it.”  Simultaneously trump praised a female senator as a "fantastically attractive person" following which he faced a point blank question over his stance on abortion. He also mentioned that Republican Party stood firmly behind in IVF treatments.

Trump's remarks over IVF drew sharp criticism from his opponent and Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris. In a prompt criticism, Harris took to her social media X and said that “Donald Trump called himself ‘the father of IVF.’ What is he talking about? His abortion bans have already jeopardised access to it in states across the country—and his own platform could end IVF altogether.”  On the other hand Trump's remarks also come as a great shock to some of his own party members who oppose IVF for religious reasons.

Ever since Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, the matter of fertility treatment has been a subject of debate amongst politics which eliminated federal abortion protections. Since then, restrictive abortion laws have been passed in several states, some of which also threaten access to IVF by classifying embryos as “children”.

IVF is a medical process where an egg is fertilized outside the body before being placed in the uterus. This procedure has sparked controversy, especially among religious groups that hold the belief that life starts at conception.
