New Jersey tragedy : In a horrific and heartbreaking incident, two Punjab-origin sisters from Jalandhar were shot by Gaurav Gill, a fellow Jalandhar native from Hussainpur village, Nakodar in a Roosevelt Avenue, West Carteret
The tragic incident resulted in the death of 29-year-old Jasvir Kaur, who succumbed to her injuries, and her 20-year-old cousin, critically wounded, were airlifted to a Newark hospital from Roosevelt Avenue.
Neighbour Josh Lenoff said, "They're just laid out on the driveway. They weren't really moving,"
Gurmukh Singh, the owner of the home where the women lived together, remembered Jasvir Kaur as a diligent worker and a kind person.
The suspect, identified as Gaurav Gill (19), a fellow Jalandhar native from Hussainpur village, Nakodar and a resident of Kent, Washington has been arrested in a dramatic police takedown on Wednesday morning.
Gill faces serious charges including first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of fourth-degree possession of a high-capacity magazine, and one count of first-degree attempted murder.
As per the reports, Gaurav Gill and the 20-year-old victim had known each other from their time together in Jalandhar.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, with CCTV footage showing the police apprehending Gill at his residence and recovering the firearm used in the crime.
The incident has shocked the community, both in Punjab and abroad, as they await further details and justice for the victims.
