Tragic accident in PoK: 20 killed, several injured after passenger bus veers off mountain, falls into ravine

Tragic accident in PoK: In a tragic and dreadful accident, at least 20 killed and 21 others injured after a passenger bus veered off a narrow mountain road and fell into a ravine in Diamer district of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Gilgit-Baltistan.
The devastating accident unfolded at the Yashokhal area on the Karakoram Highway in PoK's Diamer on Friday at 5:30 am.
The bus was heading from Rawalpindi to Gilgit and at least 38 passengers were travelling in the bus.
After the tragic incident, rescue teams swiftly mobilised to the accident site. Injured individuals and deceased victims were swiftly transported to a hospital in Chilas. According to the Health Department director, among the deceased were three women.
Diamer Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed provided updates on the injured, noting that at least five are in critical condition, with two already transferred to Gilgit city. Ahmed assured ongoing communication with the families of the victims.
The accident occurred approximately 20 kilometers from Chilas city, attributed to overspeeding or a misjudged turn by the bus.
Expressing condolences, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan directed immediate medical assistance for the injured, while the government spokesperson declared an emergency at Chilas Hospital.
