New Delhi, February 5: On Sunday afternoon, former Pakistan President and chief of Army staff Pervez Musharraf passed away due to prolonged serious illness at the American Hospital in UAE's Dubai. He was 79. There's no official communication if his body will be brought back to Pakistan, though his family has been trying to bring him back home since last year.

Former Pakistan President Musharraf's family tweeted from his official account that "recovery is not possible". The family issued the clarification after reports that the former Pakistan President was kept on a ventilator.

Earlier, his family denied, saying that his organs were malfunctioning because of an ailment called amyloidosis. This disease affects connective tissues and organs, inhibiting normal functioning.

Former Pakistan President Musharraf was facing charges from Pakistan for the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007. Since then Musharraf has been living in Dubai for the last seven years.

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 in Delhi.

He assumed the post of Chief Executive after imposing martial law in the country in 1999 and served as the president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. The former president's family moved from New Delhi to Karachi in 1947. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1964 and was a graduate of the Army Staff and Command College, Quetta.

Musharraf was the tenth president of Pakistan after a successful bloodless military coup in 1999. He has also served as the 10th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan (CJCSC) from 1998 to 2001 and the 7th top general from 1998 to 2007.

The was said that the the architect of the Kargil war which took place was the former Pakistan President. He was the person who ordered his soldiers to enter India to cut off Leh from Srinagar.

The war that took place in the summer of 1999, Pakistani soldiers, whose presence he denied, were decimated in the high mountains of Kargil. It was a catastrophic military failure for Mr Musharraf, who had pushed forward with the plan, keeping his Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif mostly in the dark.

Musharraf, emerged as stronger than ever two years after Kargil.
